St Hilarion Castle
A fairy-tale castle on crags over 700 metres up — local legend says it inspired Disney’s Snow White castle.

The castle grew out of a Byzantine monastery. The Lusignans turned it into a summer residence and an impregnable fortress whose walls seem to grow out of the rock.
It rises in three wards: stables and barracks below, a church and royal halls in the middle, and at the top Prince John’s Tower and the “Queen’s Window” overlooking Kyrenia and the sea.
The climb is steep — hundreds of steps — but the view is the best on the north coast.
Tips
- Bring water and good shoes; the top takes 30–45 minutes.
- The access road passes a military zone — do not stop or take photos there.
- In summer come at opening time; in spring, at sunset.
